Biography
竹沢うるま
1977年生まれ。
同志社大学法学部法律学科卒業。在学中、アメリカ一年滞在し、モノクロの現像所でアルバイトをしながら独学で写真を学ぶ。帰国後、ダイビング雑誌のスタッフフォトグラファーとして水中撮影を専門とし、2004年よりフリーランスとなり、写真家としての活動を本格的に開始。これまで訪れた国と地域は140を越す。
2010年〜2012年にかけて、1021日103カ国を巡る旅を敢行し、写真集「Walkabout」と対になる旅行記「The Songlines」を発表。2014年には第三回日経ナショナルジオグラフィック写真賞受賞。2015年に開催されたニューヨークでの個展は多くのメディアに取り上げられ現地で評価されるなど、国内外で写真集や写真展を通じて作品発表をしている。

Uruma TAKEZAWA
Born in 1977. Entered the Faculty of Law at Doshisha University. While a student, he visited the Okinawa islands—which have a unique culture different from the rest of Japan—and was impressed by the power of photography to document. He began learning photography by himself. After graduating from university, as the staff photographer for a publisher, he specialized in underwater photography, and starting in 2004, he became an independent photographer.
The name “Uruma” means “coral islands” in the Okinawan dialect.
